Horizontal Action's 2004 Blackout DVD

Horizontal Action does some of the best band interviews around. Most of the bands they do interviews with seem to end up playing at the Chicago Blackout every year. It's an awesome time and an awesome reason to get out to Chicago in May.

A couple years ago, my friend Ernie, a.k.a. "the Wolfman" and I went out to Chicago for the 2003 Blackout. Ernie scammed his way in by telling the people at Horizontal that he was some kind of pro filmer- guy and that he'd video the entire three nights in trade for free entry to the show. They bought it and the Wolfman got to save his money for beer. He filmed most of the show but a lot of his footage was dark, grainy and really shaky... Not uncommon for Ernie who usually films front row- center, head banging with a beer in one hand and camera in the other while getting tossed from side to side the whole time. Back in San Diego, Ernie kept his end of the bargain and ended up putting together a whole DVD for that years show. Since then, the Wolfman has been helping the Chicago guys with their video productions for the Chicago Blackouts.

Ernie just sent me the DVD for the 2004 Blackout and it's a scorcher. The Wolfman had some help with the camera work on this one. He's got some long angles in there so we can actually see what's going on along with the patented "Wolf party- dance cam" for some action shots. The sound is kinda sketchy but whaddaya want? This is PUNK ROCK not MTV. The 2004 Blackout DVD features the great, not so late, Sonny Vincent and the TESTORS!, the fucking ZODIAC KILLERS!, the REATARDS!, the LIDS! and TONS of other bands! They're all in there doing their thing and rockin'- and- a- rollin' the night away! Ooowwww...

Every year for the past few years, the guys at Horizontal Action magazine have put on a three- night punk rock extravaganza called the Chicago Blackout. If you're not familiar with Horizontal Action, let me give you a quick explanation... First: the name "horizontal action" is another way to say FUCKING. Second: they review porn in their magazine. Third: with a catch phrase like, "Pulling out the best in sex and real rock-n-roll" you know it's gotta be a good one.
